Mission accomplished for the Rutgers football team
Posted 12/7/2013 11:15:00 PM

There's an old saying that no one asks how, just if.  And so it goes for the struggling Rutgers football team which righted itself in the nick of time to qualify for its eighth bowl game in nine years, thanks to a 31-6 home win over USF in the regular season finale heard on the new talk radio, 1450 WCTC and WCTCAM.com, the Voice of the Scarlet Knights.  RU improves to 6-6 overall and wraps up its only season in the American Athletic Conference with a league record of 3-5.  Make no mistake about this, though.  The Scarlet Knights, who had lost five of their last six games, got a huge break by the AAC schedule maker with game them the uninspired 2-9 Bulls in the last contest of the regular season.  USF showed little resistance in Piscataway.  And RU fifth-year senior quarterback Chas Dodd made its final home game a memorable one, completing 19 of 24 passes for 179 yards and two touchdown passes while redshirt sophomore running back Paul James had his best game since returning from his injury, gaining 113 yards in 26 carries including two short td runs.  So, congratulations to head coach Kyle Flood for getting his embattled team to rebound in the nick of time to wrap up a probable appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl on December 28th at Yankee Stadium against Notre Dame.  We'll find out for sure on Sunday.
