18 years of futility

What do Bob Wenzel, Kevin Bannon, Gary Waters, Fred Hill and Mike Rice have in common? Not one of them has ever led a Rutgers basketball team to a 3-1 record in a Big East season. Rice made it 18 straight years of no better than 2-2 with Saturday night's 68-58 home loss to #21 Cincinnati heard on the new talk radio, 1450 WCTC and WCTCAM.com. 18 straight years! We're not talking about the first 12 games of a Big East season nor the first ten nor the first eight...not even the first six. A Scarlet Knight team has never won three of its first four games in a Big East campaign. If that doesn't show RU's futility in one of the best leagues in the nation, then I don't know what does. Oh, wait a minute. Yes, I do. The Scarlet Knights have never had a winning record in an entire season in the Big East....oh-for-18! And time's running out. Rutgers only has this season and next before it moves into the much-easier Big Ten. Pardon move as I move my tongue out of my cheek.
