The 2012 Rutgers football team has squandered the program's last best chance of going to a BCS bowl for years to come. Next year---the Scarlet Knights' last season in the Big East---they'll not only have to win the new East Division but they'll also have to get past the likes of national power Boise State in the first-ever league championship game. Not a chance. Then, RU moves into the Big Ten in 2014. Don't expect the Knights to move ahead of national powers like Ohio State, Nebraska, Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Iowa any time in the foreseeable future. No, the last chance for Rutgers...and it's long-suffering fans was Thursday night at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway when the Scarlet Knights out-and-out blew a chance at their first-ever outright Big East title and first-ever BCS bowl berth. They led Louisville 14-3 at half-time, only to commit costly turnover after costly turnover....costly mistake after costly mistake...and hand the game over to the Cardinals 20-17 in a game heard on the new talk radio, 1450 WCTC and WCTCAM.com, the Voice of Rutgers Football. I won't name names here. There's too much blame to go around. Let's leave it at this---you're going to have to wait a long, long time to see the Scarlet Knights vy again for a BCS bowl bid. Rutgers is relegated this year...and in years to come...to "minor bowl game purgatory."
