Trouble looms ahead in Pittsburgh
Posted 11/24/2012 8:58:00 AM

It's snowing in Pittsburgh this morning.  Could that be a portent on things to come for the Rutgers football team?  Dark clouds over the Scarlet Knights as they try to take another step towards their first Big East title?  Very well could be...but not for just that reason.  The Scarlet Knights are 9-1 overall and 5-0 in league heading into the game with Pitt.  The Panthers are 4-6 overall and 2-4 in conference...and a two-point favorite based on home-field advantage at Heinz Field.  Here's what worries me today:

---Pittsburgh is much better than its record...evident the fact that it took number-one and undefeated Notre Dame into triple overtime before losing.

---Pittsburgh needs to win its last two games to become bowl eligible.

---The distraction of this week's announcement that Rutgers is leaving the Big East to move into the Big Ten in 2014.

---The distraction of traveling during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.

---The shaky play of RU sophomore quarterback Gary Nova.

I think all of that adds up to Rutgers losing at Pittsburgh 27-21.  However, don't despair Scarlet Knights fans.  Your team still can win the Big East title outright on Thursday night at home against Louisville.
