Colonia gets knocked out of the state tournament; last area team is eliminated
Colonia's season came to an end Thursday night, as the North 2, Group 3 champion Patriots lost to Bergenfield 52-51 in the Group 3 semifinals at East Orange Campus High School Thursday night, as heard on WCTC.  After a tight first quarter, Colonia went on a 16-8 second quarter run to take a 24-18 lead.  The teams played a tight third quarter, but Colonia got in foul trouble in the fourth, and Bergenfield went on a 16-0 run, getting hot from the foul line, to get back on top.  A late rally by Colonia in the final two minutes fell short, as the Patriots trailed by four when Chase Barneys' buzzer-beater from three provided the final margin. Colonia finished with one of its beast seasons ever.  Their 24-4 record tied the school mark for most wins ever, set by the 2006-07 state title team.  They won their first sectional title since that season, while also winning the GMC Tournament for the first time since 2006, and ran the table to win the GMC White Division after dropping down from the Red. With the last area team eliminated from the state tournament, WCTC will unveil its final Top Ten Monday morning at 6:30 am, and on wctcam.com.
