New Jersey crews are making progress against four forest fires

Calmer winds are helping firefighting crews in New Jersey make progress against four large forest or brush fires burning in different parts of the state. As of Friday morning, no injuries and only minor property damage have been reported. A blaze in the Ocean County community of Berkeley Township that burned 309 acres and forced hundreds of evacuations was fully contained Friday morning. Residents were allowed to return to their homes late Thursday. A smaller fire in a different part of Berkeley had burned 220 acres and was 40 percent contained. A fire that burned more than 1,500 acres in Downe Township in Cumberland County was declared under control Friday morning. And a blaze that burned 569 acres in Franklin Township in Gloucester County was 50 percent contained.
