Voters in New Brunswick and Edison OK school budgets, elect Board of Education members

Only two Central Jersey school districts have held April elections, and both saw their budgets pass Wednesday.  In New Brunswick, where Patricia Varela and incumbents Dale Caldwell and Emra Seawood won three uncontested seats on the Board of Education, the $27 million budget passed overwhelmingly.  Voters in Edison also approved their school spending plan - a 192-million dollar blueprint - albeit by a narrower margin:  by less than 100 votes out of over 4,000 cast.  They also re-elected incumbents Frank Heelan and Jerry Shi to the Board of Ed, while selecting a new member - Beth Moroney - to replace outgoing School Board President Gene Maeroff, who decided not to seek re-election.
