Newark has a new mayor but Trenton has to wait until a runoff election next month

New Jersey's largest city has picked a new mayor, but the state's capital will have to wait until next month to see who'll succeed its convicted former mayor.  In Newark, former city councilman Ras Baraka declared victory Tuesday in the race to replace Cory Booker, who stepped down last year to run for U.S. Senate. A runoff election will be needed to determine Trenton's next mayor. None of the six candidates secured at least 50 percent of the vote. The June 10 contest will feature top vote-getters Eric Jackson and Paul Perez. The winner will succeed Tony Mack, who was convicted on corruption charges in February. In Paterson, former mayor Jose Torres had a commanding lead over city council president Andre Sayegh with only provisional ballots left to be counted.
