Rutgers could meet some old rivals in a new basketball series between the Big Ten and Big East

5/5/2014

The Big Ten - which Rutgers officially joins on July first - and it's old league, the Big East, have announced a men's basketball series of eight games each year to be known as the "Gavitt Tipoff Games" in honor of the late Big East founder Dave Gavitt.  The series will run from 2015 through 2022.  The games would be played in November on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of the first full week of each season.  Each Big Ten team will participate at least four times in those eight seasons.  League officials will make an official announcement this afternoon at Madison Square Garden.  Rutgers' existing series with in-state rival Seton Hall would not be a part of that matchup.
