Perfection! No. 1 Ridge wins its third state football title to finish 12-0
The Number One team in WCTC's Central Jersey High School Football Top Ten for much of the year - Ridge - has capped off a perfect season with a state title.  The Red Devils finished 2013 with a school-best 12-0 record, thanks to a 48-13 win over Union at Rutgers University in Piscataway Sunday in the North Jersey-Section 2, Group 5 Championship game, as heard on WCTC.     Ridge dominated the game, particularly in the second half, after taking a 21-7 halftime lead.  A senior-laden team, the Red Devils were led by QB Conor Hughes, who was 10-for-13 passing for 156 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Three of them went to the team's best receiver, Ryan Bell, who had a couple of outstanding grabs and dives into the end zone for scores.      The defense was outstanding, too, holding 2011 Gatorade NJ Player of the Year Jamauri Bogan in check all day.  Bogan - averaging 151.4 yards per game - came in needing just 68 to reach 7,000 yards in a stellar four-year career.  But, official stats showed his total at 67 in the game, leaving him one yard shy for his career.  Ridge players also came up with 3 interceptions on Farmers' QB Diego Riod.      Tune in to 1450 WCTC and wctcam.com on Monday morning at 6:30 as we reveal our 2013 Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, and our final Top Ten.
